April 2004 Venue: Lucan Community College. SCORERS: The Dublin Dragons recorded their second victory, defeating the Cork Admirals 26-12 in a tense battle in Lucan. The Dragons jumped out to a 12-0 lead with two touchdowns in the first quarter. Dragons linebacker, John Durrad intercepted a John Kenny pass and returned it 30 yards for the first touchdown. The second touchdown came on a 6 yard run from tailback Dave Wheeler after the Admirals failed to move the ball on their second possession of the game. The Admirals got back into the game in the second quarter, when, after driving downfield, quarterback John Kenny scored on a 2yd sneak into the endzone. In the third quarter, the Dragons increased their lead with a 5 yard run by fullback Al Burke. The two point conversion by Rob Olwill gave the Dragons a 14 point lead at the end of the third. However, Cork came back with Barry Rafferty pulling in a John Kenny pass and turning it into a 42 yard touchdown score. Dragons defensive linemen Neil Holland and Paul Singleton helped shut down the Admirals running game in the fourth quarter and the Dragons sealed the win with a 2 yard run by Matt Quinn. The Dragons move to 3-1 and the Admirals drop to 2-1. Article from www.iafl.info |
